The 2026 Global Prosperity Summit opened in Hong Kong on the 19th, with nearly 200 attendees from the political, business, and academic sectors discussing key issues that affect Hong Kong's development and global prosperity. The convener of the summit and chairman of the Huixian Think Tank Council, Regina Ip, stated in her welcome speech that Hong Kong plays an important role in promoting dialogue, exchange, and cooperation. Despite the uncertainties in the global environment, Hong Kong remains stable and full of development opportunities. With the support of the government, Hong Kong maintains close ties with the international market and benefits from the economic development and long-term strategic planning of the mainland. She believes that this year marks the beginning of the country's 15th Five Year Plan, and Hong Kong should also conduct more in-depth discussions and reflections on its long-term development and future positioning. During his keynote speech, Han Zhiqiang, Vice President of the China Public Diplomacy Association, stated that Hong Kong is an international city that connects China and the West, and the world. It is not only an important hub for finance, trade, and shipping, but also a bridge for the intersection of diverse cultures. Han Zhiqiang said that the world is currently experiencing unprecedented changes, and the objective development and changes of the situation have placed the urgent issue of reforming and improving global governance in front of countries and peoples around the world. The global governance initiative proposed by China is in line with the needs of the world and reflects the common voice of the international community. He believes that implementing global governance initiatives requires jointly upholding the authority and status of the United Nations and building a solid foundation for global governance; To improve conflict prevention and resolution mechanisms and eliminate the global governance security deficit; To work together to promote the process of common development and enhance the effectiveness of global governance; To unite and address urgent and prominent challenges, and make up for the shortcomings of global governance; We need to fully leverage the role of diverse stakeholders and gather global governance forces. This summit will last for two days and is jointly organized by the Policy Research Center of Huixian Think Tank, the Shanghai Institute of International Studies, and the European Business Association of Hong Kong. The conference features five thematic discussions, focusing on topics such as pharmaceutical innovation, international trade, aerospace development, sports and culture, and cryptocurrency.
