The three major indicators of the shipbuilding industry have all risen comprehensively
2026-05-08
According to data released by the Ministry of Natural Resources, the marine shipbuilding industry showed strong growth in the first quarter, with China's three major indicators of new sea vessel orders, completed sea vessel orders, and held sea vessel orders all rising, increasing by 116.7%, 33.3%, and 30.0% respectively compared to the same period last year. The international market share continues to rank first in the world. Preliminary calculations show that China's gross marine product reached 2.6 trillion yuan in the first quarter, a year-on-year increase of 5.4%, which is 0.4 percentage points higher than the GDP growth rate. The share of marine economy in the national economy remains stable. The proportion of ocean GDP to GDP in the first quarter was 7.8%, driving the national economic growth by 0.4 percentage points. According to Shi Suixiang, Director of the National Marine Information Center, based on these data, China's marine economy has shown a new and positive development in the first quarter, with the total volume reaching a new level and achieving a good start. The ability to allocate marine resources is steadily improving. The production of offshore crude oil and natural gas increased by 5.1% and 7.7% respectively year-on-year. The world's first 20 MW offshore wind turbine is connected to the grid for power generation in the waters of Fujian, with an estimated annual power generation of over 80 million kilowatt hours. The national production of marine aquatic products increased by 4.3% year-on-year. 589 new sea island projects were added nationwide, with an approved sea island area of 53000 hectares, involving an investment of 252.3 billion yuan, a year-on-year increase of 35.9%. The marine engineering equipment manufacturing industry has achieved rapid growth. Clarkson data shows that in the first quarter, the amount of new offshore engineering orders, delivered orders, and held orders in China increased by 36.4%, 60.0%, and 8.9% year-on-year, respectively. China's first domestically built deep-sea construction vessel, "Tianyi Navigator", was successfully launched, and the largest cylindrical floating production, storage and unloading unit (FPSO) in Asia, which was designed and built independently, was started to help the development of deep and offshore resources. The large-scale utilization of ocean energy has achieved significant results. So far, China has preliminarily established a national ocean energy resource database. The first domestic megawatt level tidal power generation unit, the "Fenjin", has been operating stably for nearly 4 years. The world's first megawatt level wave energy generation device, the "Nankun", has achieved expected daily power generation and other major indicators. The first semi submersible wave energy aquaculture platform, the "Penghu", has been operating stably. The marine pharmaceuticals and bioproducts industry is steadily developing. Brown algae oligosaccharides have been officially approved by the National Health Commission as a new food ingredient, achieving a breakthrough of zero application of seaweed oligosaccharides in the food industry. For the first time, Chinese companies have applied high-purity marine phospholipids to the cosmetics industry. The first provincial-level local standard for marine traditional Chinese medicine in China, the Guangxi Marine Traditional Chinese Medicine Standard, has been officially promulgated and implemented, filling the gap in the standardization system of marine traditional Chinese medicine in China. New progress has been made in seawater desalination and comprehensive utilization industry. The international seawater desalination cooperation project is steadily advancing, and Chinese enterprises have successively signed seawater desalination general contracting contracts with Iraq and Algeria. The Hassyan seawater desalination project in the United Arab Emirates, undertaken by China, produces qualified water. New breakthroughs have been made in the comprehensive utilization technology of seawater, and China has achieved the extraction of kilogram level uranium products from seawater under real marine environments. The first research project for direct hydrogen production from seawater in a factory with a capacity of 100 kilowatts has been running for 1000 hours in Qingdao, Shandong. The marine transportation industry is growing steadily. In the first quarter, China's ocean freight volume and cargo turnover grew rapidly, with year-on-year growth of 6.8% and 9.4% respectively. The cargo throughput of coastal ports increased by 5.0% year-on-year, accelerating by 3.4 percentage points compared to the same period last year. The container throughput of coastal ports increased by 8.3% year-on-year, maintaining the same growth rate as the same period last year. It is reported that since the beginning of this year, a series of high-end green ships such as China's second domestically produced large cruise ship "Aida Huacheng", 174000 cubic meter large liquefied natural gas (LNG) transport ship "Green Energy Wind", and the world's first 114000 ton wind assisted propulsion LNG dual fuel oil tanker "SPA" have successively docked or delivered, fully demonstrating the technological advantages and construction efficiency of China's shipbuilding industry. Shi Suixiang stated that the current domestic and international environment is complex and ever-changing, with intertwined external factors and increasing risks and challenges. The foundation of stable and progressive marine economy still needs to be further consolidated. Next, we need to optimize the layout of the marine industry, stimulate market vitality, and promote a new leap in the marine economy through effective improvement in quality and reasonable growth in quantity.
