After careful repair and preparation, the former site of the dormitory of the First National Congress of the CPC (the former site of Bowen Women's School) was officially opened to the public on March 24. The former site of the representative dormitory of the First National Congress of the Communist Party of China was formerly known as Bowen Girls' School, which is only 200 meters away from the site of the First National Congress of the Communist Party of China. In July 1921, under the arrangement of the early organization of the Communist Party of Shanghai, most of the representatives attending the First National Congress of the CPC stayed in the vacant school buildings of Bowen Women's School during the summer vacation. The representatives held a preparatory meeting here, drafted meeting documents during the recess, and exchanged and discussed their understanding of the Chinese revolution. As the dormitory of the First Congress of the Communist Party of China, it witnessed the birth of the CPC together with the site of the First Congress of the Communist Party of China. In October 2019, the former dormitory site of the First National Congress of the CPC was announced by the State Council as the eighth batch of national key cultural relics protection units and incorporated into the site of the First National Congress of the CPC. The core principle of this renovation is' protection priority, minimal intervention, and identifiable restoration ', which extends the vitality of this building and lays the foundation for the subsequent protection and utilization of cultural relics. ”Kang Jue, Deputy Director of the Exhibition and Research Department of the First National Congress of the Communist Party of China Memorial Hall, introduced that the exhibition aims to restore historical scenes, tell historical stories well, and promote the spirit of the founding of the Party, and to create two major systems of restoration display and historical site display in one. Entering the second floor of the former dormitory of the First National Congress of the Communist Party of China, each room is meticulously reconstructed based on historical documents, old photos, and oral historical materials, delving into historical details and meticulously restoring the historical scene. Clear markings were made on the accommodation rooms of representatives such as Mao Zedong, He Shuheng, Dong Biwu, Chen Tanqiu, Wang Jinmei, Deng Enming, etc., to help the audience establish a corresponding relationship between space, characters, and events. In the room, combined with the representative's personality traits and lifestyle habits, further enrich the scene layout elements, allowing the audience to intuitively experience the real-life living, thinking, and communication of the representatives back then. Due to the need for building protection, the former residence of the First National Congress of the Communist Party of China has implemented an appointment based visit system, and the museum provides free daily guided tours at regular intervals. It is reported that thanks to the comprehensive upgrade of exhibition technology, multiple precious cultural relics have been able to be exhibited regularly. The restoration exhibition and historical site display opened to the audience this time are both arranged on the second floor of the building. The museum will make use of the space on both sides of the first floor of the building in the future, and it is expected to complete the exhibition layout by June 2026. At the same time, in order to further activate the systematic value of the red resource cluster in the birthplace of the Communist Party of China, the site of the First National Congress of the Communist Party of China, the former residence of the First National Congress of the Communist Party of China representatives, and the Memorial Hall of the First National Congress of the Communist Party of China will strengthen linkage and build an integrated, immersive, and panoramic red culture exhibition and dissemination system.
